Sun, Culture and Gastronomy
Limassol is the second biggest city in Cyprus and the largest port in the island. Known for its vibrant nightlife, history and wine production, this tourist destination features long sandy and pebbly beaches, interesting museums and delicious Cypriot gastronomy.
Situated on the Akrotiri Bay, cosmopolitan Limassol is the southernmost city in Europe and home to the beaches of Governor and Lady’s Mile. The medieval Limassol Castle, as well as the ancient cities of Amathus and Kourion are some of the must-see attractions while visiting Limassol.
You should not miss the charming Old Town with its traditional houses and small streets leading to the old port and the beach. Featuring rich vegetation like eucalyptus trees and cypresses, the green Public Garden is home to a zoo with animals like tigers and lions.
Kolossi Castle is about 14 km from the city of Limassol, and the Greco-Roman theatre of Kourion is 18 km away, near the village of Episkopi.
Larnaca International Airport is about a 40-minute drive and can be reached by car, taxi or public transportation. Booking.com has excellent hotels, apartments, resorts and villas near the airport or Limassol.

We visited for the Limassol marathon running weekend. We have attended this event many times and always stayed in a hotel. This time we stayed in a house which was a much nicer experience. We also got to see a different area of the city which was really nice. Great place for a few days. enjoy the Marina, walk by the sea, try Cypriot cuisine, enjoy local life. People are friendly, weather is quite nice, traffic is not so bed. I really liked Sherlock's home pub and the carnival celebration in the city center.

Not a bad city, but definitely not one of my favorites. One must not have high expectations and I think 1-2 days are enough for a visit. What I really liked was the local zoo, albeit small, and the archaeological sites. Hotel on the beach equal to 5 stars, clean with perfect service, big clean comfortable room with modern equipment. The staff is perfect. Nice facilities like spa, polls super French restaurant. Breakfast is excellent with a huge choice of everything. Just perfect. In case you have no car the bus stop is exactly out of the hotel. Parking is available.

Limassol is very car friendly and not at all pedestrian friendly. Missing traffic lights for pedestrians and in a lot of spaces even missing a side walk at all. Even if a side walk exists it is blocked by parking cars. Everywhere you look you see construction sites for new buildings when on the other hand a lot of old buildings are run down and even half destroyed. The city is very dirty and loud because of all the traffic.

We came to Limassol as a part of a trip to Greece and regret coming here. The city was pretty mediocre compared to Greek cities and towns. The locals were not as friendly and it was very difficult to get around. The buses are extremely confusing and can be very infrequent depending on where you want to go. If you want to go see any historical sights this town is not the place to go. I also did not feel overly safe walking around. I would say go to a different city.ClarissaCanada
